USAG Bavaria’s new website is responsive, meaning you can view it with ease on mobile devices and desktop computers. USAG Bavaria Public Affairs image.

It’s tough moving here. You’re on your own. You don’t have the stability you once had in the States. You might not speak any German, so things get even tougher.

We understand this and, coupled with the problems you’ve voiced to us, we’re moving to bring back the stability in your lives.

Our new website at now serves military communities in Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Hohenfels and Garmisch. The site draws from all the resources on-post. A community calendar — broken up into nine categories — keeps you current on what’s happening. And a news page aims to deliver pertinent, local and functional information–tied to the problems and decisions you address in order to manage your personal, professional and community affairs.

We have removed the old sites at, and

We now know that more Americans view the Internet on mobile devices than they do on traditional desktop computers. Mobile devices accounted for 55% of Internet usage in the U.S. in 2014, according to CNN. And the Pew Research Center reported this year that “As of May 2013, 63% of adult cell owners use their phones to go online.”

More than half of smartphone owners have used their phone in the past year to look up information about a health condition or have used their phone to do online banking. Courtesy of the Pew Research Center.

As a result, we’ve built an entirely responsive design for our site using a Bootstrap framework pioneered by government websites at, and What is responsive design? It means that our site is accessible on mobile phones, tablets and any desktop screen.

This site is organized based on what you thought were the greatest needs in the community. What you think is important is “bottom line up front,” or BLUF.

We’ll continue to leverage social media to keep you informed and to field questions. Facebook remains our primary source of communication in a crisis. But we encourage you to explore your other options. Our Twitter feed provides resources from around the military. Our calendar allows you to share or even email events. Our Flickr and Youtube pages are valuable, too (we’ll accept your submissions). Or leave a comment on the daily stories we post to our news section.

There are a few kinks in the website. Please let us know about them, no matter how small (grammar and punctuation included). The site is a long way from perfect but with your help we can make it stronger.
