GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — An official local national labor union strike set to begin during the morning hours Monday, Oct. 19, outside Tower Barracks may slow or stop traffic in and out of an installation gate and limit garrison services.
The strike could last one to eight hours. During this time, community members could see delays in entering the installation and other impacts on services here.
The union ver.di is scheduled to picket off the installation outside gate 3 of Tower Barracks, which could slow traffic or close the gate. Community members and those entering or exiting the gate should be prepared to use gate 6 Monday.
Gate 3 is near the Soldier for Life Center across from McDonald’s and gate 6 is further east along route 299.
Detailed information on affected services will not be available until Monday morning. Follow USAG Bavaria’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/USAGBavaria for updates.
Local national employees have a legal right to participate in peaceful, off-post strike activity. The union ver.di — which represents the largest amount of union workers at USAG Bavaria — is calling for a strike among all its members at U.S. military installations in Germany.
The planned strike is in connection with the ongoing salary and wage tariff negotiations among local national employees at foreign state military installations in Germany, according to a ver.di flyer.
