Kick it to the curb. U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria’s Fall Cleanup includes bulk item pickup at Rose Barracks Nov. 19 and at Tower Barracks on Nov. 17 and 19.

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — For Soldiers and families living on Rose and Tower Barracks, now’s the chance to clear out those large items that are just taking up space.

As part of U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria’s Fall Cleanup, bulk items will be picked up Thu, Nov. 19 at the housing and barracks areas on Rose Barracks in Vilseck. For Tower Barracks in Grafenwoehr, bulk items will be picked up in the housing areas Tue, Nov. 17 and in the barracks areas Thu, Nov. 19.

What items will be picked up?

Bulk item pick-up is meant for items that are too large or heavy to fit into a car trunk. This includes furniture, mattresses, carpets, large appliances, large televisions, bicycles or other items that cannot be broken down.

Leaves will also be collected, if they are placed in clear plastic bags or wire collection baskets.

Small items, such as vacuum cleaners, microwaves, small televisions, and computers, should be taken directly to the garrison recycling centers.

The recycling center on Tower Barracks is located in Bldg. 700, across from Range 118. The hours are Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.-noon, and Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri from 12:45-3:30 p.m.

On Rose Barracks, the recycling center is located in Bldg. 107, near the Central Issue Facility. For the week of the Fall Cleanup, Nov. 16-20, the Rose Barracks center will have extended operating hours, Mon-Fri, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Where should I put the items for pick-up?

On Tower Barracks, items should be placed at the recycling islands in the housing areas and near the barracks. No items should be set out before Nov. 13 or after 6 a.m. on Nov. 20.

On Rose Barracks, signs will be posted at designated locations Fri., Nov. 13. No items should be set out before signs are posted Nov. 13 or after 6 a.m. on Nov. 20.

What can I do to help the pick-up process go smoothly?

At the designated locations, items should be separated into three piles: electric and metal items, leaves, and all other items. This helps the process because three different trucks pick up each kind of item at different times during the day.

What items will not be picked up?

Normal refuse and recyclable materials, such as cardboard, cans, glass and plastics, will not be picked up. These materials should be disposed of as usual in the individual bins.

Hazardous waste such as batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze, cleaners and solvents should be taken to Self-Help. Self-Help is located is Bldg. 103 on Rose Barracks and in Bldg. 394 on Tower Barracks.

Engines and other car parts should be taken to the Automotive Skills Center, Bldg. 528 on Tower Barracks.

What if I can’t wait for the scheduled pick-up day?

Bulk items and other trash can always be taken to the recycling centers. Operating hours on Rose Barracks are Tue-Thu, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sat. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. On Tower Barracks operating hours are Mon-Fri, 8 a.m.-noon, and Mon, Tue, Thu, and Fri 12:45-3:30 p.m.
