InDependent news release

FORT RILEY, Kansas —InDependent launched a new online program for military spouses called MilSpo’s Guide to Self-Care.

The free online program will occur monthly from January through September 2016, with each month featuring experts who will present health and wellness content as it relates to military life. Program participants will receive a 30 to 60-minute pre-recorded interview, book club recommendation, access to a private support group, one group coaching session and an in-person or virtual meet up. The program is designed specifically to help military spouses practice self-care and encourage them to invest time in themselves each month.

The idea for the MilSpo’s Guide to Self-Care was inspired by the first-ever online 2015 Military Spouse Wellness Summit (MSWS) co-hosted by InDependent and Army Wife Network. The event attracted more than 2,000 participants all the way from Kansas to Japan. Post summit reviews revealed that people loved the content and online format.

“Keep up the truly great work you’re doing for the military spouses out there! This event [Military Spouse Wellness Summit] was groundbreaking and amazing,” said Laura, a National Guard spouse and 2015 MSWS participant. “It is amazing to see technology link us all together even though we are all spread around the country.”

The MilSpo’s Guide to Self-Care program is in addition to next year’s summit scheduled for October 2016.
