USAG Bavaria Security Office news release

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany—As a federal employee, military service member, or contractor, you already know that you’re responsible for protecting classified information. You probably also know that you must protect personally identifying information, or PII. However, did you know that for PII, email encryption isn’t all you should do?

You should also mark the email subject line and attachments to reflect the sensitivity of the contents. Don’t leave the recipient guessing about an email’s sensitivity level. Use the Outlook email classification add-in to simplify email marking.

PII includes any information that is sensitive and, if lost, could result in harm to an individual. This includes Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, medical information, home addresses, and financial information.

Report PII violations to the Army Privacy Office and https://www.us-cert.gov.
