GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria 2016 college graduates and award-winning teachers from on-post universities were recognized for their academic achievements at a graduation ceremony here May 6.

“It is an honor and privilege to be around such a talented group of Soldiers, family members, civilians and perhaps some retirees,” said Annette Evans, deputy to the USAG Bavaria commander, in her opening remarks.

This year, 30 graduates earned associate, baccalaureate and postgraduate degrees from the four on-post universities, Central Texas College, University of Maryland University College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and University of Oklahoma, as well as several off-post colleges.

Evans congratulated the students’ accomplishments, acknowledging that pursing an academic goal requires extraordinary effort and perseverance, particularly in an overseas military community.

“You work across continents, across time zones, at night when others are sleeping. If you’re a parent, you’re studying in between family responsibilities or working in the field. What you do is some of the hardest work in the United States,” said Evans.

Four teachers from the on-post academic institutions were also recognized for their excellence in teaching and commitment to students.

Garrison leadership, distinguished college representatives, members of the Education Center, and families and friends were all in attendance to celebrate the students’ academic achievements and honor the universities’ remarkable faculty.
