GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — Summer is here and that means sunny days, school breaks and for many of us – travel.
If you’re one of the many Americans who will be traveling around to explore this summer, there are some things to keep in mind.
Things to know
- All civilian employees, military personnel, and their dependents, traveling to or within Europe are required to register with the State Department’s Smart Travel Enrollment Plan (STEP), according to a European Command tasking order dated June 16, 2016. Visit travel.state.gov/step to register.
- If you have a security clearance, you must report all travel outside of Germany to your Security Manager in advance. Find the Foreign Travel Report at www.bavaria.army.mil/security.
- You may be required to get pre-approval before traveling to specific countries. Plan ahead.
- Travel restrictions often apply to all DoD-sponsored personnel, including military personnel, dependent family members and DoD civilian employees.
