GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — The elimination of sexual assault and harassment is a year-round priority for the Department of the Army. This year’s theme, “Sexual Assault. Sexual Harassment. Not in Our Army.”, underscores this effort.

Every April, the USAG Bavaria community demonstrates its resolve to eliminate sexual assault through National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The U.S. Army observes SAAPM as a collective effort to prevent assaults, support survivors, and encourage expression and condemnation of sexual assault and any retaliation against those who report.

“Every Soldier, Army civilian and family member deserves to be and will be treated with dignity and respect,” U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and Sgt. Maj. of the Army Daniel Dailey wrote in a SAAPM letter to the community last year. “Sexual assault, sexual harassment and retaliation have no place in our Army and are detrimental to combat readiness.”

In January, the Army opened SHARP, its broad sexual assault prevention program, to all Department of the Army civilians and their family members. The Army also created the Special Victims Counsel to provide Soldiers who are victims of sexual assault with confidential legal guidance and representation during all stages of the military justice process.
