VILSEK, Germany — Pinpointing the right college and associated financial assistance just got a lot less stressful for students and parents living in the USAG Bavaria community.

The first annual “Vilseck High School College and Career Night” will be held Mon, March 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the high school multi-purpose room at Rose Barracks.

College and Career Night at Vilseck High School is meant to be a one-stop shop for college information. It’s specifically designed for and open to all high school-aged students and their parents.

“We had found in the past that our seniors were unprepared for the entire college board application process,” said event organizer Shawn Rodman, assistant principal, Vilseck High School.

“This event is meant to address this issue,” Rodman said, adding that “There will be an opening presentation explaining the college board application process.”

This is a chance for both students and parents to feel comfortable approaching colleges and universities — from people with intimate knowledge of the schools.

“It’s an opportunity for students to get first-hand knowledge about colleges and universities, scholarships and financial assistance,” said Rodman.

More than 20 colleges and universities will be on hand. Representatives will include both college staff members and European-based alumni. There will also be representatives at tables with information on some scholarship and financial support programs.

“Planning for College Night starts in April of the previous school year and takes the collected dedication of garrison and Vilseck school staffs, members from parent-teacher organizations, and Army school liaison officers and community volunteers,” said Rodman.

Free and open to all U.S. ID cardholders stationed in Europe, the college night is directed toward middle-school to high-school students and their parents looking for colleges after high school. It’s also for service members, civilians, retirees and their families, who want to pursue higher education.
