GRAFENWOEHR ELEMENTARY PTA NEWS RELEASE

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — Grafenwoehr Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association has been awarded a $1,000 grant from National PTA® and Google to provide parents with the resources they need to answer practical questions about digital safety and citizenship. The grant will be used to host a Be Internet Awesome Family Workshop on May 22nd at 5:30 p.m. at Grafenwoehr Elementary School.

Grafenwoehr Elementary School PTA is one of 200 local PTAs nationwide selected to receive a PTA Connected Be Internet Awesome grant from Google and National PTA. In addition to the funds, all grantees will receive a Be Internet Awesome kit to help PTA leaders host a successful workshop.

“The PTA Connected Be Internet Awesome Family Workshop by Google allows parents to explore their excitements and worries about raising children in a connected world and to work through discussion-based, parent-to-parent sessions on topics like password security and safe websites,” said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. “Parents will walk away with the awareness of the topics and access to resources, answers to questions about online safety and digital citizenship, and action plans and information to help facilitate discussions at home.”

To make the program as inclusive as possible, each Be Internet Awesome kit is bilingual — with materials in English and Spanish — and includes a Google Pixelbook, which will be given away in a drawing during the event.

At the Be Internet Awesome workshop, families will:

  • Increase awareness of online safety tools for families

  • Learn about digital citizenship and how to better navigate the internet

  • Be inspired to Be Internet Awesome together by growing their understanding of digital well-being

This event is open to the entire U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria community, and parents with children in CYS programs can earn participation points for attending. Parents are encouraged to bring their students to the event, and students in grades 3-12 will participate in the workshops while younger students will enjoy movies and activities in the multi-purpose room. Dinner will be provided when doors open at 5:30 p.m., and sessions will begin at 6 p.m. All attendees will be entered in a drawing to win a Google Pixelbook, courtesy of Google and National PTA.
