GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — Tower Barracks Gate 6 reopens on schedule Friday, June 14, to inbound and outbound POV traffic as construction crews complete construction of a traffic circle on B299.

The new traffic circle outside Gate 6 will be available for public use. Gate 6 and the new traffic circle will open around 2 p.m. June 14.

Construction was awarded and completed to enhance customer service to the 24/7 gate and increase the installation’s overall physical security and force protection.

“Construction of a new traffic circle on B299 at the intersection in front of Gate 6 access road will reduce accidents on B299,” said Heike Mueller, road and traffic coordinator at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria.

The project occurred in two phases. Phase I lasted from April 23 to May 20, 2019. Phase II lasted from about May 20-June 14, 2019.

DOD ID cardholders can again sign guests on- and off-post 24/7 at Gate 6.

Gate 6 will also reopen 24/7 to inbound commercial trucks and tactical vehicles, as well as all outbound traffic.

Construction crews completed the project prior to the 2019 German-American Volksfest, which draws in more than 100,000 people through Gate 6.

USAG Bavaria’s Directorate of Public Works continues to plan and complete more customer-friendly projects in the future.
