VILSECK, Germany — The American Red Cross is promoting activities during National Preparedness Month to bring awareness to our communities. One of the activities they are hosting is a writing and drawing contest for children with prizes for those who win. It is also a great way for kids to express themselves and to develop skills.

 

Drawing contest

 

  • Who: Ages 3 to 7 years

 

  • What: Use the template and draw a picture of what “preparedness” means to you

 

  • When: Deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

 

 

Writing contest


 

  • Who: Grade levels 3rd through 5th, 6th through 8th, and high school

 

  • What: Write an essay, short story, poem, or other creative writing piece on the topic “Prepared, not Scared.” Genre can be fiction or non-fiction with a maximum of 500 words.

 

  • When: Deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

 

 

Don’t forget to include name, phone and email in submissions.

 

Winners will be announced at the Community Preparedness Day event on Sept. 24, 2019 and receive their own emergency preparedness kit. The event starts at 9 a.m. outside the Tower Barracks Exchange.
