GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — For the second year in a row, the Army Substance Abuse Program is hosting its Summer Sense Campaign virtually across U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria. This year, the team wants community members to be on the lookout for fresh content and updated safety information.

“Last year, COVID-19 restrictions limited the amount of activities that members of USAG Bavaria could engage in,” said Laura Garcia, a program specialist with ASAP. “This year — with greater freedom of movement across Germany — we will be adding new and interesting ideas for fun. Of course, all while staying within our host nation guidelines and with safety always in mind!”

The 2021 Summer Sense Campaign aims to further help reduce alcohol related incidents throughout the community. It does this by bringing awareness to the dangers of alcohol abuse, and encouraging community members to participate in safe summertime activities. It also works to uphold unit, and individual, readiness and resiliency throughout the community.

As COVID-19 lockdown restrictions continue to lift and community members begin to explore Germany, Garcia invites personnel to make good use of their program and resources.

“We at ASAP are excited to be a part of the Summer Sense Campaign,” she said. “We encourage the community members of USAG Bavaria to enjoy; although, always remember that if you choose to make alcohol a part of the fun, do so safely. Make this summer a time to remember for the good times.”

The campaign runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Every week, ASAP expects to bring the segments of the campaign to the small screen with videos and fun facts broadcasted via AFN TV. Then return to this article for the discussed recipes, quizzes and more.
