GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — World Poetry Day is returning to the city of Grafenwoehr on Monday, March 21. The city participated in this event last year. And due to its great popularity, the poem exhibition will be held again this year.
In cooperation with the State Theatre of the Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate), selected poems are placed in two locations within Grafenwoehr. One exhibition is located at the bridge at the town pond, or Stadtweiher. The other is in the park near the coat of arms, at the intersection of the Bahnhofstrasse and the Pressather Strasse. On the bridge railing and wooden billboards, community members can find inspirational quotes from great poets.
To celebrate partnership between the host nation communities and U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria, some of the displayed poems are in English. This is remarkable in the city of Grafenwoehr, because in the past only German poems were selected.
“The exhibition is supposed to encourage you to take a moment for yourself and turn your thoughts to something positive”, said Grafenwoehr cultural manager Birgit Plössner.
Consider taking a walk through the outdoor exhibition, and get inspired by great poems. The works will be on display until Easter Sunday, April 17.
