Education Services Officer Sheila Barthel receives her award, for being IMCOM Europe Region-wide Army Professionals of the Quarter, from USAG Bavaria Commander Col. Christopher Danbeck

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — Installation Management Command Europe announced the IMCOM Europe-wide Army Professional of the Quarter awardee for the second quarter of fiscal year 2022. And the prestigious award went to Sheila Barthel, education services officer with U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria – Rose Barracks.

Barthel earned her nomination through her outstanding performance, hard work and dedication to her community. Upon receiving the reward, Barthel pointed out that she is especially proud of her team.

“I am honored,” Barthel said. “You know you come to work every day and make things happen and make the change, but nothing happens without an amazing team. I am lucky to have a great team, and you can’t do anything without that.”

Upon presenting the award to Barthel, USAG Bavaria Commander Col. Christopher Danbeck said, “Every day she is doing amazing things, and I am incredibly proud to be part of Sheila’s team.”

Amongst other things, Barthel excelled this quarter while serving as the ESO for USAG Bavaria. She stepped up to lead the Army Continuing Education System team — quickly assuming the responsibility of all assigned ACES property, and ensuring the continuity of operations without the slightest dip in performance.

Moreover, Barthel maximized the facility’s space and improved the efficiency of the operations, directly benefiting hundreds of Soldiers and spouses in the Bavaria community.

Additionally, by changing the entire layout of the Rose Barracks Education Center, she doubled the size of the testing centers and computer lab. She also added an office for educational counseling — increasing customer output by roughly 100%, which nearly doubled customer output.

Lastly, Barthel worked directly with the 7th Army Training Command and other mission partners to conduct unit briefings and classes at the company, troop and battery levels.

Barthel inspired her team, and together they continue to improve the lives of the Soldiers and families in across USAG Bavaria.
