VILSECK, Germany – The Zombie Apocalypse is coming, with Escape the Outbreak 2.0 on Rose Barracks Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a barbecue in the safe zone from noon to 2 p.m.
Escape the Outbreak is designed to help teach people to establish situational awareness by implementing a disaster preparedness day for the local military communities of Rose and Tower Barracks.
The American Red Cross, with the help of participating organizations, will host a fun and competitive event for all ages comprised of teams working through a series of disaster related challenges.
Each station will represent a different disaster or preparedness related obstacle to overcome before moving on to the next.
While surviving the apocalypse is a great feat to accomplish, the end goal of this event is to bring awareness to the fact that disasters can happen any moment, and to educate Soldiers and their families on preparedness for the unexpected, even during a zombie outbreak.
Individuals interested in participating can sign up with teams (6 person maximum) or as a family.
There will be two course options this year: one kid and family friendly course with seven challenges to complete, and the full-length course of 12 challenges for adult teams.
Individuals who do not want to participate in the challenge can volunteer to be a zombie and help make the event a realistic zombie apocalypse and lots of fun for all.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
