U.S. European Command has implemented travel restrictions to France that apply to all DoD personnel.

Specifically, unofficial travel to and within France is prohibited.

Official travel and emergency leave travel to France requires approval from the first general or flag officer or Senior Executive Service civilian in the chain of command.

This EUCOM policy applies to all U.S. service members, Dept. of Defense civilian and contract employees, and command-sponsored family members, except for military personnel assigned to diplomatic posts in France.

The travel restrictions apply to cruise ship shore excursions, but not to airline connections, if the traveller does not leave the secure sections of the airport terminals.

According to EUCOM, these restrictions are not only a precautionary measure to keep U.S. personnel and families safe, but are also an effort to help minimize tourist traffic at borders in France as French authorities continue their investigations.
