Bavaria-wide Tax Centers open Feb. 1

7th Army Training Command Tax Center release

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — It is coming up on everyone’s favorite time of year – tax season! As always, the 7th Army Training Command Tax Centers will be providing free federal and state tax return preparation and electronic filing services for all DoD ID cardholders.

Bavaria-wide Tax Centers in Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, and Hohenfels are set to open on February 1, 2018 and will remain open throughout the tax season. The Ansbach Tax Center will open on February 5, 2018. The filing deadline is April 17, but overseas personnel have an extended filing deadline of June 17. You can visit the tax center webpage at www.eur.army.mil/7atc/taxcenter.html.

Last tax season the tax centers assisted more than 4,000 tax filers at no charge, saving them almost $1 million in preparation and filing fees, and generating more than $7 million in direct deposit refunds.

The centers’ IRS-certified tax preparers can help filers with a range of tax issues, including real estate and foreign tax issues.

Filers should prepare for their tax center visit and bring in all tax-related forms and information:

  • Copy of last year’s tax return

  • CAC/DoD ID Card

  • A second state-issued form of identification

  • Social Security or Individual Taxpayer Identification numbers for every family member claimed on the return

  • Tax forms, including W-2s (wage and tax statements), 1099s (earnings from self-employment, interest and dividends) and 1098s (mortgage interest statements)

  • Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit

  • A power of attorney, if married filing jointly but one spouse is not present

Soldiers, civilian employees, and retirees can download their W-2 from their Defense Finance and Accounting Services myPay account.

At the tax centers in Grafenwoehr and Vilseck, filers can walk in or schedule an appointment. Those with more complicated returns—returns involving capital gains, rental income, foreign taxes or multiple state returns—are encouraged to schedule an appointment and drop off their documents beforehand.
