GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — Unexploded ordnance (UXO) was discovered May 8 in the Grafenwoehr Training Area.

U.S. and German explosive ordnance disposal teams have determined that the UXO must be detonated on location. A 300-meter blast radius has been established around the UXO.

All buildings in the blast radius will be evacuated prior to the detonations. Roads in the vicinity will be closed and clearly marked.

Controlled detonation will occur Sat, May 12 beginning at 8 a.m. Work may continue through Sun, May 13 if necessary. Stay connected to the USAG Bavaria Facebook page for updates.

All personnel in the vicinity have been notified and will be cleared of the blast radius.

The garrison shuttle bus will not stop at the NCO Academy Friday or Saturday (May 11-12). It will only make a stop at the Camp Aachen USO.

Detonation areas are outside housing areas and away from the main installation area on Tower Barracks. Detonation areas are clearly marked. STAY CLEAR!

Community members may hear loud explosions during the time of the detonations.

Safety remains the highest concern. Garrison officials are ensuring the area is cleared, roads marked and personnel notified. Community members are reminded to always stay clear of unexploded ordnance. For safety info on UXO, visit www.bavaria.army.mil/docs/Safety_3Rs.pdf.
